2021 HIKM – Tracking and tracing COVID-19 NZ using Genomic Data

Abstract: Genomic data has given us key insights in understanding and controlling the spread of COVID-19 in New Zealand. I’ll describe the ideas and technology behind genomic tools in epidemiology and discuss how they have been deployed in real time over the last year.

Biography: Dr David Welch is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Computer Science at the University of Auckland. He is deputy director of the Centre of Computational Biology. He researches and teaches computational statistics and biology, data science, and phylogenetic methods in infectious disease epidemiology.
